Fall color tours and other fall family activities
19 September 2009

Fall is my favorite time of year. I love drinking apple cider, going on hayrides (see my profile picture), throwing my kids in leaf piles, and of course, admiring the reds, oranges, and yellows of Michigan's deciduous trees. Listed below are activities you can enjoy with your family this fall.

One of the most beautiful cities in the country is Grand Rapids, MI, and this is the time of year to really get out and see what GR has to offer. Many of us will be taking the children out to see the colors this fall, and the Grand Rapids Fall Tour is the best place to start.

At Michigan.org, there are a number of maps which highlight area tour routes that allow for the greatest amount of viewing pleasure, and my personal favorite is the Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, and South Haven route. The colors in South Haven are spectacular.

If you would like to see a list of other cities in Michigan which offer fall color tour routes, you can visit the Fall Color Tours Cities list section of Michigan.org to find a route nearest you.

My family and I love Halloween and strange stories that provoke thought, so I wanted to include a ghost tour in my list of fall activities. The Ghosts of Kalamazoo tour is something that the whole family can enjoy without being scared to death. In fact the Kalamazoo Jaycees want us to know that the tour is not scary, and they advise children under twelve to find something scarier to do. However, the tour is enjoyable for all ages and is a great way to spend quality time together.

The dates for tours are as follows:

Dates and locations may change--email info@ghostsofkalamazoo.com or call the Kalamazoo Jaycees’ 24-hour hotline at 269-343-2355 with any questions you may have. Prices are $7 per person for a 35-45-minute tour or you can pay $18 per person for three tours. You may want to pre-register to reserve a spot.

Check out the sites listed below for other great activities that you and your family can enjoy over the next couple of months.

If you have other activities that you would like to see posted on this site, send me an email at johnsonbarn3@msn.com

Have fun and be safe.
